STRIKES.
THE GO VAN TROUBLE, CAULKERS RESUME WORK. i _ j United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph | Copyright, Received August 5, 7.5 p.m. LONDON, Augusts. In June hst the Shipbuilders' Employers' Federation notified eighteen trades unions which had signed an agreement in Match, 1909, regulating conditions, that there had been frequent strikes in contravention of the agreement. The employers added that at the next stoppage every member of the unions in the three Kingdoms would be locked out.
A number of drillers and caulkers at the Govan Dry Docks, on the River Clyde, after removing some plateb and making a vessel unfloatable, struck on Wednesday without giving notice They demanded time instead of piece rates. The action was taken without the union's knowledge, and the employers were unaware that any dissatisfaction existed.
In consequence of the occurrence at Govan tie Employers' Federation announced that a lock-out will begin on 13th August unless the men resume work.
The ultimatum has caused consternation among workmen on the Clyde. The boilermakers and shipwrights' executive twice addressed the strikers, and eventually persuaded the caulkers to resume work. The drillers continue out en strike.
PERTH TRAMWAY STRIKE. APPLICATION FOR A MANDAMUS. REFUSED BY FULL COURT. Received August 5, 10 a.m. PEKTH, August 5. The Full Court dismissed an application for a mandamus the Tramway Company to continue the service, the court deciding thai the existing trouble was a strike.
