TO-DAY'S ART EXHIBITION.

A very fine collection of paintings in oils and water colours bas been placed at the diepasal of the Committee for the Arts Exhibition, which is taking place in the Tech-

meal School building tc-isy pnd (c- \ morrow. Included in the group are i

some masterpieces such an arc rot often to be met with. A painting by Rubens is without a doubt the chefd'oeuvre of the exhibition. Artists from many parts of the Dominion are represented, and amongst the exhibits by amateurs are several that may well bs taken for the work of the profession. The promoters of this fine exhibition of art deserve the highest praise for the steps tftey have taken for placing within the reach of the public such fine studies. We may safelypredict that a record number will visit the exhibition; and, also, that they will greatly benefit by what they see. They will get an idea infinite pains and care must be taken, and years spent in the endeavour, before a real masterpiece can be produced. The young people of to-day have many advantages that were not available to former generations. With our splendid technical schools within the reach of all we ought to find them crowded with students at all available times, and if an impetus is given in this direction by the aid of the present art exhibition, its promoters may well be pleased with the result of their action.
