TALL SCORING

By Telegraph—-Presa Association. AUCKLAND, July 31. " The Northern Union same between the British and New Zealand teams was played here in tne presence oi: fully 15,000 persons. The game was won by the Britishers by 52 points to 20, the points being scored in exactly opposite conditions to those of last week. In the first spell the Britishers pipy w;;>s very poor in all departlnci.to. txcept tackling. This was necessarily good to prevent the New Zealand team piling up too large a score. The second spell saw tho splendid combination of the visitors brought into action, and points were scored at the rate ot one a minute. Tries were scored for the Bntibh team by Leytham 2, Avery 3, Smith, Kershaw 2, B. Jenkins 2, Loraas and Thomas. Lomas converted five tries and kicked a penalty goal, Sharrocks potted a goal, and Thomas converted a try. For Auckland Buckalnd, McDonald, I Seager and Hughes scored tries, while Jackson converted three out of three attempts, and also kicked a penalty goal. (In reckoning scores it must be noted that a goal of any sort only counts two points.)

Though it was cold the weather was fine for t'm meeting of the representative teams from Puketoi and the Bush Unions, and a large number of spectators witnessed the game. Although Puketoi showed a good stubborn fight, Bush proved superior and had practically the best of the game throughout, the threequarters proving too and fast for the defeated team. In the first spell Banks Pilkington scored a try for Bu3h, the spell ending three to nil. In the second spell tries were scored by P. Dungan, Cade and Thompson, the first being converted. The final scores were, Bush 14, Puketoi nil. WELLINGTON SENIOR RESULTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 31. The results of Saturday's senior matches are: Poneke 9, beat St, James 6. Oriental 17, beat Athletic 5. Petone 8. beat Old Boys 3. Hutt 7, beat Melrose U. Wellington 3, beat Southern 0. ; WAIRARAPA MATCHES. SENIUR NORTH v. SOUTH MATCH. The North v. South senior representative match was played on the Showgrounds, Maaterton, on Saturday before only moderate attendance. The gama, which was a very good one, ended in a draw, three points each. On the day's play the North men deserved to win, their forwards playing exceptionally well, while their back 3 were safe. The game was very even till nearly half time, when for several minutes the South team had things all their own way,

and from a lire kick by N. McKenzie Callister, who was following up well, caught the ball nn the rebound, and bating the North full back, drew first bloud. N. McKerzie'a kick at goal went wide. In the secanJ half the play was very willing, and the North more than held their own, play very seldom crossing their half line. The kicking was disgraceful, however, five shots right under the posts bding missed. From a scrum almost on the line, F, Ball obtained the leather and dashed across near the posta, A. Ross' attempt at goal proving unsuccessful. The game ended shorly afterwards, without any addition to the score. For the North Ball and McKetzie played sterling games, while C. Grouba and A. Desmond were the pick of the south Mr E. McKenzie was referee.

THOMPSON-PAYNE CUP. LIBERAL v. CARTERTON. Played at Cartertun and won by the home team by six points to three. DALEFIELD v. WERAIIT. Played at Carterton and won by Dalefield, by 23 points to nil. MASTERTON v. LOWER VALLEY. Won by Masler'on by default. COOPER CUP. RED STAR v. CARTERTON. ( Played at Carterton and won by Carterton by 16 points to nil.
