SPORTING.
RACING. !URF NOTE 3. By "Zetland." The Wairarapa Hunt Club's steeple-; chase meeting will be held on the Taratabi racecourse on September Ist. The secretary, Mr Norman H. James, and the members of the committee mav be depended upon to leave nothing undone that may conduce to the success of the meeting. Past meetings held by the Hunt Club at Clareville have been noted for genuine sport, the racing being of a decidedlyfhigh cr.ier with a total absence of anything in the way of unfair running. It will be remembered that last year the Hunter's Hurdles and Steeplechase were won by Sir Lathe, who at that time was making his debut in public and has since raced successfully and also won in. the leading comi pany of the Dominion. Merrie Land, winner of both Hack Plats last year came out as a winner afterwards at Masterton, Martinborough and Tauherenikati, it is plain to see that meetings such as those of the Hunt Club serve a useful purpose as they tend to bring out horses that afterwards prove capable of Holding their own even on Metropolitan courses. 'lhis year's programme is a very creditable one, and includes three steeplechases, one Hurdle Race, two Hack Flats, and a Ladies' Bracelet Handicap The fact of quite a number of horses being in active commission tiircnghout the district in vi;\v of tijjd meeting gives reasonable promise that the sport'-loving f public wi 1 be enabled to v i .ess a capital afternoon's racing, scries for all events close with the, secretary on August 2Cth
