MORRIS TUBE SHOOTING
The Maaterton Morris Tube Club held the fourth shoot for the Brighting Gup on Thursday night. The scores also count for Mr R. J.King's trophy. The following are the leading scores and aggregates— A CLASS.

FINE OF £io. At the S.M. Court, yesterday morning, before Mr G. C. Graham, S M., Thnmas B. Lee, was charged with having given an oider for liqucr and w.th having failed to giv. J the name and address in writing of the person for whom it was intenced. Sergeant Miller stated that accused and another man namedßurtMt went to Carterton in a motor-car Accused ordered a case cf wliskty and atked the driver of the motor-car in which the two men went to Carterton in to sign for the whiskty, as he had ordeied some liquor at Taratahi and did not want his name to appear too often in regard to oidtring l.quor. Jack Demasure gave evidence similar to the statement made by Sergeant Miller. He did not pay for the whiskey, only signing the order.
Constable Dunn stated that he had asked accused it ha knew anything about the whiskey, and he denied having any knowledge of it. W. Redmond, licensee of the Club Hotel, Carterton, stated that a case of whiskey and some beer was taken away in the motor-car hired by accused.
Mr Lavery, who appeared fnr accused, admitted the facts of the case. Ihe liquor, he contended, had been properly ordered—a verbal order having been given by accused. The Mag istrate said that Demasure was a dummy in the matter and he would enter a conviction. Lee bad tried fo evade the Act, and would be fined £lO and costs.
In response to a request by Mr La very for time of accused to pay the fine, said that he saw no reaggn tg dg so, but would give Lee twehty-fou? hours to find the money. William Kedmond, licensee of the Club Hotel, Carterton, was charged that knowingt hat liquor was intnded to be illegally delivered in the nolicense area of Masterton, he did deliver such liquor tOj the person oidering it.
Jack Demasure gave evidence similar to that given by him in the former case.
Constable Ingram also gave evidence.
William JRedmoud said that Lee, Bartlett and Demaeure visited his hotel, Bartlett asked what he could do a dozen of beer for, and witness told him. Demasure then asked what a case of whiskey would cost, and the information was conveyed to him. The beer and whiskey were ordered, and he went and got it, someone having called out "you had better get that beer and whiskey." Bartlett signed for the beer and Demasure said he would sis:n for the whiskey. Which of the three men had,called out ordering the liquor he could not say. The money was oh the counter when witness brought the whiskey and beer into the bar. Witness knew the liquor was to be taken to Masterton. He denied a statement made by Demasure that he, the latter, had asked witness if it would be all right if he, Demasure, signed the order. By Mr Lavery—Witness had informed the police wnen asked that Lee had purchased a case of whiskey.
The Magistrate said that there was an element of doubt about the case, owing fi the contradictory statements made by Demasure and
accused. Redmonc. was appr-iret'tly justified in coming to the conclusion that the whiskey wa3 for Demasure, In dismissing the case His Worship stated that he bad been guided in his decision by the fact that Kedmond had freely given the police any information they desired.
