The Ladies Championship of Taranaki has been won this year by Hawera, who defeated Ekham on Saturday last by one goal to nil. I understand, says a Christc lurch writer, that it is the intention of thoae in authority to insist on regulation sticks being used in shield matches. Probably no rule, off-3ide included, is so heartily abused as rule 7, i.e., describing what is a hockey stick. Incidentally it may be m ;n----tioned that the two-inch ring for testing the size of sticks is in constant use in Hawke's lias, and in a recently in Napier preliminary test resulted in five sticks only out of 22 going through the measuring circle. The secretary of the Nelson Ladies' Hockey Association has issied a circular giving particulars regarding the tournament which will be held in Nelson that the end of August. Entries close with the secretary at Nelson on August 1, and it is proposed that; the tournament shall be commenced on August 31. and be continued daily until completed. The following rules Jiave been drawn up specially for thi tournament:—!. That an entrance fee oi 10s shall be charged for each competing team. 2. That a junior tournament shall be held if four or more teams enter for this grade. 3. That all tournaments be held under the ,
control of the local association, and that the balance-sheet be forwarded by it to the New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association within four weeks of the completion of the tournament, 4. That all visiting teams also supply a statement of the expenses, and that a division of the profits be made as follows:—2s per cent to the local association, the balance to be divided amongst visiting teams in proportion to their expenditure. | 5. That all associations must supply the names of 15 playjrs for each team, and no other than those named can play in any match. 6. That no team will ba allowed to compete unless skirts comply with the uniform length, viz., six inches from the ground. Each team must wear its association's registered colours. The Falmerston North Post and Telegraph Team beat the Masterton Post and Telegraph, at Palmerston North last Saturday by 5 goals to 3, after an* excellent game. The game, which was played on a very heavy ground, was very even, and a good exhibition of hockey was witnessed. Clark, the Masterton goalkeeper, played a brilliant game. For the losers Richards (2) and Loader scored goals. The team had a. very enjoyable trip, and were excellently entertained Dy the home team. A return match is to b3 played at Masttrton shortly." The Secretary of the Wairarapa Association wishes to nctify players and others travelling with the representative team that to get the concession on their farss to Wellington that application must be made to him as soon as possiole, and aUo that • all must ba at the railway station by 8 a.m. on Saturday.
