MAURICEVILLE NOTES.
(From a Correspondent.) j MAURICEVILLE, Wednesday, j The Mauriceville Hall was the ! scene of an enjoyable gathering on Monday evening, as a surprise party, to bid farewell to Mr Benjamin Hillias, who is leaving the district. During the evening songs were contributed by Mr Brooks, jnr. (comic) who was vociferously recalled, and Mr A. Parkes, who also sang in his usual pleasing style. A charming recitation was given by Mias Stutters. Dancing was indulged in till midnight, when supper was served, the tables being artistically decorated with jonquilia andmaiden hair fern.The evening was brought to a close by the clasping of hands and rendering of "Auld Lang Syne." The Devonport Dramatic Company opened here to a crowded audience on Tuesday evening in a "Web of Fate.' This being the first dramatic company visit us the joys and sorrows of the hero and heroine, with the villian and his villianies was greatly appreciated I and enjoyed. Among the audience were Mrs Bagley, Mrs Brooks, Mrs Myers, Mrs Hoply, Miss Gardiner, Mrs and Miss Stutters, Mrs Rolleston and Messrs Brooks, Hopley, Goodgame,- Myers and many others,
