IMPERSONATING A JOCKEY.
At the Police Court in Palmerston North on Monday, before Mr A. D. Thompson, S.M , a young man named George M'Donald, who was previously before the Court on charges of obtaining money by false pretenses by representing himself to be the jockey "Len" King (for "which he was sentenced to four months' imprisonment) was again before the Court on a charge of false pretencesand forgery. Dr. J. D O'Brien gave evidence that, on the evening of June 29th, a man rode up to his house on horseback. He wanted the r'octor to do him a favour and stated that he had an urgent wire from Gisborne. His employer, Mr Biuck, was away, and he was short of £l. He added: "You don't remember me, doctor; I am 'Len' King; I rode Mr Buick's mare Tangimoana in the Manawatu Cup." The doctor said: "No you didn't; 'Sid' Reid rode her. Accused replied: "I beg you* pprdon; it was in another race." The doctor, being suspicious, made out a cheque to "Len" King, and made it payable to order, saying: "This is made pabable to order, and if you monkey with it, you* will get into trouble." Mark Dumbleton deposed to cashing the cheque after it had been endorsed by accused as "Len" King. Accuse'! pleaded guilty, and desired t) be dealt with summarily, but the S M.. said that he had rio power to deal with the case, and accused was remainied to the Supreme Court m Wellington for sentence.
