DIRIGIBLE COLLAPSES.
FIVE PERSONS KILLED. BERLIN, July 13. The dirigible balloon Brosloeh collapsed near Cologne, and its five occupants were killed. The victims of the disaster included Herr Erbsloeh, the designer of the balloon and a well known balloonist. It is believed the motor exploded bursting the envelope of the balloon.
VICTIMS DREADFULLY MANGLED. Received July 14, 10.10 p.m. BERLIN July 14. The Erbsloeh's log says—"Started nine morning in thick fog. Went northwards. At nine the earth was invisible. Later, thick fog under us Going downwards with vertical rudder. Height at 15 was 280 metres." Experts believe that after the contents of the gasbag cooled in a clinging mist tbe airship rose, and with the sun's burning rays the gas expanded so rapidly that it was impossible to let enough air out of the air chamber in time to relieve the pressure. The envelope thus burst. When the airship fell the rear part of the envelope was still full of gas. Hence there was no explosion of petrol. The airship p'ungetf a thousand feet, bow downward?, wit'j the motor still working. When it struck the ground the victims were dreadfully mangled, all having shattered skulls, clenched hands, and shoes torn off by the shock.* The disentanglement of the corpses from the wreckage was a difficult task. i
