CLERGY UP IN A K.MS

At the meeting of the Wel'ingtw Ministers' Association yesterday, Rev. J. Kennedy Elliott presiding, the question of the Johnson-Jeffries fight pictured camo up, and it was manifest from the outset of the discussion that the pictures had no hope of clerical patronage. On the contrary, net only the kinematographic represenlations, hut the publication of details of t<ie fight through the newspapers were vigorously condemned. After much discussion the association passed the following resolution: "That this meeting of the "Wellington Masters' Association enters a strong protest against brutal details of boxina contests being reported in the columns of the public press to the glorification of prize-fighting; and the gross outrage of humane sentiment, abd pledges itself to oppose to the utmost of its power the repetition of such ' outrages in the representation of these disgusting details by kinematograph or other process; and it calls upon the Premier to take such steps as may be necessary to prevent such exhibitions." I The association went even further, placing the ban upon all professional boxing meetings, and cry stallised the views of members on the subject in the following resolution: "That the Wellington Ministers' Association call up.m the Government to prevent by legislation professional boxing contest 3 in the Dominion. The association believes that the encouragement ot professional fighting is inimical to the interests of humanity." The necessary step 3to bring the views of the association under the notice of the Prime Minister will be taken in aua course. AGITATION IN AUSTRALIA. A DEPUTATION. Received July 18, 10.30 a.m. MELBOURNE, July 13, The State Premier, Mr J. Murray, gave an indefinite reply to a deputation that waited on him to urge that the Johnson-Jeffries fight pictures should not be allowed to be shown in Victoria. He adctod that if boxing in Victoria develope/Virito' brutality the Government wouid take action.
