AVIATOR KILLED.

THE HON. C. S. ROLLS. Received Juy 13, 9.10 a m. LONDON, July 12. The Hon. C. S. Rolls was killed while aeroplaning at the Bournemouth aviation meeting. Mr Rolis was using a biplane in the alightirg competition when the accident occurtd. He was making a sudden descent, which caused overpressure on thft back tails and the breaking of the pivots. This rendered the machine powerless, and it fell from a height of lUCft at a terrific rate, being reduced to a mass of matchwood and broken steel. Mr Roils was extricated as quickly as possible, when it was found that his neck was broken, and the base of the skull fractured. Thousands witnessed the accident. Flying was abandoned for the day.

MR ROiJLS'S CAKEEK The Hon. Charles Stewart Rolls, who last month aeroplaued across the Englsh Channel and back, was tne son of the first Baron Llangattock, and was born in London on August 27th, 1877. A pioneer in all new iorms of locomotion, motorist and baloonist. Mr Roll? took to aviation as a mutter of course, and quickly proved a highly promising student of this difficult and dangerous science. His previous achievements as a balloonist and motorist had eariy marked him out for distiction, and hia accomplishment of flying across the Chanl nel to the French shore and back again justified all the high expectations entertained of him.
