COUNTY ENGINEER'S REPORT.

The County Council's Enginesr, Mr D. McLachlan. reported as follows to the meeting of in Mastertoa County Council yesteici *y : Opabi Riding.

Masterton Waimata Road.—Contract No. 226. — Diver's corner to Taueru section, metal repairs. Tuj above contract has completed to satisfaction. Owing to tho fairly easy season, much of the crown £>t the road being in fair condition I was able to utilise the metal in extending the width on a considerable length between Diver's corner and Ruamahanga.

Robert Street.—Messrs W. H. Uiuickshank and J. Cress have renewed their request for an estimate of the cost of a footpath with the object of improving the drainage along their frontage. I have tatcen ieve.s for the work and submitted an approximate cost. Upper Opaki Road. —I have had the stone broken and raked in on the newly metalled length and the metal is now being worked in bv the traffic, and I think that it is scarcely necessary to hire the Borough roller under the circumstances. The truss bridge at Rummers' has been screwed up and adjusted. Authority has been received for the expediture of the grant cn the Ruamahanga Road. Te Whiti Riding. Robieson's Road.—A culvert, of has collapsed and I have had it replaced. Surface repairs have been effected to the Masterton-Uladstone Road. Wawgawa Bridge.—Timber for the re-decking of this bridge has been ordered and will be delivered forthwith. Rangitaraau Riding. Te Ore Ore-Bideford Road.—A 2ft by 2ft 6in by 40ft calvert in a dilapidated condition, under an embankment, near mile peg 7, will require replacing this summer if temporary repairs will see it over the winter. Some light surface repairs were made to a weak portion of the Wangaehu Road. Upper Taueru Riding.

Te Ore Ore-Bidefcrd Road. —Contract for building a 24ft span bridge. The erection of above has been duly completed; the earthwork approaches have yet to be made. Last week's rain brought down some heavy slips on the Bowlands to Maori garden length of road; the road is however open to wheel traffic.

I have obtained the necessary information from the survey office reporting the original surveyed line on theWainui-o mapu road giving access to Mr Harris' property, this being necessary as the original survey f 'aid down about 25 years ago had been more or less obliterated. Plans for the formation and culveting to the Mangarai road have been approved of, with a direction that the work be not commenced until authority has been received. Wainuioru Riding. Weraiti-Fernyhurst Road.—Build' ing a roadman's cottage. Contract No. 223, has been duly finished. Weraiti-Fernyhurst Koard.—l purpose expending the amount provided on the annual estimates for reducing ta steep grade at the Taueru Bridge, the traffic being light the time is new most opportune for carrying out the work. Blairlogie-East] ! Coast Road.—The roadman reports considerable damage on the Blairlogie section of this road by intruding slips which have been removed sufficiently to adimt of wheel traffic.

Plana have been approved for the carrying out of the work on the Riverside, Waioronga, and Stronvar Roads. Works not to be started until authority has been received. Alfredton Riding. Following last weeks' raiD slips have been reported on the AlfredtonWeber and Saunders Roads.
