HYDROPLANING.
DUCAL PARTY UPSET. Received July 11, 2.20 p.m. LONDON, July 10. The Duke of Westminster was hydroplaning to-day at Cowes at a spepd of 35 knots,. when the craft turned too sharply.. There was a strong tide running, and the hydroplane capsized and sank. All the four occupants were rescued.
A NARROW ESCAPE. Received July 11, 10.50 p.m. LONDON, July 11. Robins, representing a motor corhpany, and two mechanics, clung to the upturned hydroplane, but the Duke of Westminster was struggling under the weight of a big mackintosh, and drifted seaward for fifty yards. He sank once. Robins, noticing his distress, had swum hard, and was just nearmg the Duke when the latter sank again. He was pulled to the surface, and both were taken aboard the launch. The Duke was unconscious and only after, artificial respiration had been tried for some time did he recover. He returned to London, not much the worse for his thrilling and narrow escape.
DEATH FROM X-RAYS-Received July 11, 9.30 a.m. LONDON, July 10 Mr Harry W. Cox, an electrician, who has had much to do with X Kays since their discovery, died as the result of the accidental placing of a tube of rays near his face twelve years ago.
