Lady Islington, wife nf the Governor of New Zealand sailed from Plymouth on Saturday for New Zealand William Harw'ard, an inmate of the Ballarat Asylum, died at the ag«i of 107 on Saturday. He was one of the early surveyors of Australia. Mr A. G. Marshall, M.A., of Auckland, has taken up the position of assistant professor of mathematics and physics at Canterbury College. The members of the L'iocesan Synod were the guests of Mrs Wallis, wife of the Bishop of Wellington,- at an "At Home" in the Concert Chamber of the Town IJall on Saturday. The friends of Mian A. Roberts, half-sister of Mr V. H, Clifford,, who underwent, a perious operat'oa on Sunday last at Mflrtinborougb, will be pleased to learn that she is progressing favorably. Mr Walter Newton,, who has bepn Inspector of Awards at Wellington since February, 190S, has been transferred on promotion to Dunedin. Mr Ernest Le Cren, Inspector of Awards at Dunedin, will take Mr Newton's place. The death is recorded of Rev. Father Christopher Craig, C.SS.R., which occurred at the monastery, Ballarat, Victoria, on Friday, 17th June. The dec?ased had been ailing for a considerable time of consumption, contracted during a sojourn in Ireland. Father Crai* was born in Rt;efton, New Zealand, in 1875 and made his novitiate at Dundalk, Ireland.
