VALEDICTORY.

MR A. 0. PAUL'S DEPARTURE. Mr A. C. Paul, the popular teller at the Bank of Australasia, who has been transferred to the Hawera branch, was accorded a social evening by a large number of friends last night. The chair was occupied by Mr G. H. Cullen, who in an appropriate speech expressed the regret fait by a large circle of friends at Mr Paul's departure. The chairman stated that during his four years' residence, in Masterton the guest of the evening had formed many acquaintanceships which doubtless he would be pleased to recpll in luture year 7, and expressed the hope and belief that Mr Paul would soon be found in a high position in his profession. On behalf of many friends the chairman asked Mr Paul to accept a presentation of a smokers' companion, as a token of esteem, at the same'lime asking Mr Paul to acpect the best wishes of the gathering for his futu e success. Mr Paul suitably responded, and stated that he would always recall with pleasure his residence in Masterton, and stated that he had, during his comparatively short sojourn in Masterton, become exceedingly attached to the place, and he was leaving it with many regrets. Mr Paul's health was toasted and appropriate' speeches made, the gathering closing with sinking of "Auld Lang Syne."
