Mr J. C. Boddington reports that the rainfall registered at the Upper Plain for the 24 hours preceding 9 a.m. on Monday was 53 points.

By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 4. The Rev. D. C. Bates' summary and forecast are:— The barometer has continued low everywhere, thus accounting for th: winds being only of moderate strength in most parts, though gales have been experienced in the north - ern and southernmost districts.Heavy rain has fallen in many parts, and especially on the eastern coasts of both Islands.

Present indications are for a rising barometer in the North, with strong southerly and westerly winds, and a falling barometer in the South, with freshening north-easterly winds prevailing, and cloudy and unsettled weather, with rain, probable generally.
