OUTRAGE IN A CHURCH.
By Telegraph—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH. July 4.
Yesterday morning some evillydisposed or mentally, deficient person entered St. Mary's Anglican Church, evidently some time between 9 and 10 o'clock, aad threw the Communion linen on the floor and filled the chalice with wine from flagons. The Vicar and Churchwardens are making a strong effort to .discover the culprit. Inquiry on the matter shows that Whiteley Church has been troubl'd in a similar manner on two or three Sundays lately. In one instance, when the outrage must have been committed at some time be* tween 4 o'clock and the evenirg service, the miscreant took the bread ot the Sacrament from the table and distributed it over the flour.
Other minor sacriligious acts have been committed, such as pulling the cushions off the seats; scattering the anthem?, and so on.
