major cup. P. AND T. v. EXCELSIOR. Played at Masterton, the match ending in a draw, one goal each. Despite the ground being somewhat soft the game, which was played on No. 1 ground at Lansdowne, was an excellent exhibition. The first half was noticeable for the fine passing of both sets of forwards, but in the second spell the work was particularly fast, and most of the hitting was indulged in by the backs. The game had not been long in progress before the P. and T. forwards were in their opponents' circle, and after a scramble in front of the net, J. Berry scored the first goal of the match, and the first goal against Excelsior this season. The Keds livened up, but their combination was not up to the standard played by them at Carterton, and most of their rushes were the r2sult of individual play. From near the \ ] half way line,R. Hatch secured the ball, and by a brilliant piece of work carried the ball right through the P. and T. defence, and shot a goal, thus equalising the score. The rest of the play was very lively, but Excelsior had slightly the better of the game. Hatch, Scrimgeour, Williams and Richards were the pick of the winners, while Hunter, Hanley, lexiy, and Loader were the moat prominent in the P. and 1. team. Mr J. O'Meara was referee. CARTERTON v. MAKTINBOROUGH. This fixture waa won by Carterton by default. JUNIOR. ST. MATTHEW'd A v. EXCELSIOR A. Played at Mastencu, the above fixture ended in a draw —one goal each. Ramblers bad no difficulty in defeating Huia, who played one short, by four goals to nil, the latter be ing practically on the defensive during the whole of the game. The play was remarkable for its number of breaches of the rules by the Huias, many of which the referee allowed to pass on account of the players being practical.y new to the game, and the Ramblers holding the game easily in Iheir own hand 3. Misses C. Easthope (2i, K. O'Leary and N. for the winners. Mr B. Iveson was referee. KIWI v. HINEMOA. Played at Carterton, and won by Kiwi after a very one-sided contest by 5 goals to nil.
