"PETE."
At the Town Hall on Saturday, July 2nd, Messrs -Clarke and Meyneil's specially organised company, headed by Mr H. K Roberts and Miss Beatrice Day, wiU appear for the first time here' in "Fete,'' the famftUß play by Hall Caine and L. N. Parker, dramatised from the former's , novel "The Manxman." "Pete" ran for over 2GO nights at the Lyceum Theatre, Loncon, and thr'Jled many j thousai ds of playgoers. Many ] situ&tioLs in the play, .according to' the ' London Daily Telegraph, are: undeniably effective. The scene where Pete resolves to his i wife's flight by pretending she has gone away for her health; that in which he gets Philip to write a letter to her for him; that in which Kate threatens to denounce Philip in the Judgement r seat;/ that la which Philip confesses, are among those which grip the audience with intensity of feeling. "Pete", has been one of the greatest successes of the dramatic stage in England, and its presentation here will be awaited with keen interest.- The cast will include, in addition to Mr Roberts and Miss Day, Mr Conway Wingfield, Mr Harry, Sweeney, Mr J. F. Foide, Mr W. J. Montgomery, Miss Lorna Forbes, Miss Elwyn Harvey, MjSS Katie Towers, Miss Ethel Bathford, arid Miss Mary Larng-Meeson, all specially selected by Mr Clyde Meynell. THOMPSON—PAYNE PICTURES. The inclemency of the weather last evening did not prevent a large number of patrons from witnessing the excellent programme now being presented at the Foresters' Hall. The various items were well-received. This evening five more pictures will be added to - the already lengthy programme, which will be '"The Treachreoos Gaucho," "Who Wins my Heart," and by special request ol the local amateurs, "La Tosca" with Mme. Sarah Bernhardt in the leading role., The results of the children's matinfe prize competitions will be announced on the screen. Children are reminded that the papers must be posted or delivered Before noon to-day. Messrs Thompson and Payne -have opened up negotiations for the sole right o" exhibiting the Johnson-Jeffries fight in New Zealand, the sum offered being a Jong way over five figures. An important announcement will be made in Saturday's issue of this paper. TOWN HALL PICTURES. Notwithstanding tbe inclement weathtfr the attendance at the Town Hall pictures last evening was very gratifying. To-night there will be j an entire change of programme, ,in whic i one of the .films will show His late Majesty King Edward VII. opening a new museum. There will also be two scenic filrrs sbowirig the Land of Eternal Summer, and Picturesbue Switzerland. The comic film 3 to be shown will comprise some\ of the most side-splitting pictures shown in Masterton. I'he Town Hail Pictures will be fhown in Featherßton on Thursday and will re-appear again on Friday i ight. Winners of hockey \ earns are requested to present their passes on Friday night.

The performance of this charming j operetta will take place on July sth, in the Town Hall. 1 The work was written by Chas. Vincent about p.ight 'yearsngo, and has erjoyed wnnder.ul 'pop'Jlaiity. The.musl'* is bright, and the libretto interesting. Humorous episodes are furnished in abundance through the medium of Piiicess Tabubu (Mr Harry H tU). The solo and set dancts in thp second act are very pretty - The stage scenery an.d cori tumes will provide all that is rej quired for the realisatun cf an Egyptian Court.
