Monday. The funeral of young Elley took place on Saturday morning at Pahistua. There was a large procession of settlers. Mr A. J. Hughes, an old and respected resident oE Pahiatua of 30 years standing, ha 3 left for Mohaka, where he has bought about 11,000 acres of land. The funeral of Mr Nieholls took place yesterday at Mangatainoka, and was largely attended. Most unusual are the results ct the Bush Unhn's senior matches on Sat. uvday, draws being the results returned in the three games. The results were:—Mangatainoka nil v. Pahiatua nil, Hukanui 3 v. Konini 3, Eketahuna3v. Nireaha 3. Nireaha are leading for the Banner. An alarm on the fire bell was given at 1.30 yesterday morning, when it was fuund that J. Ping's fruit shop was on fire. The Brigade, under Captain Clifton, was quickly on the spot, and with two leads of water they soon had the fire under control, but not before the premises were gutted. Mr W. I. Husband's offices, next door, were damaged by water. The Brigade worked like Trojans, and a word of praise must be given them. Three Chinamen on the premises were got out with difficulty, and when brought out were suffering from theeffects of smoke. The insurance on the building, which is owned by Mr T. C. Williams, is £BSO, in the Liverpool, London and Globe office. Ping's stock was in sured for £3OO in the New Zealand office and £3OO in the Alliance. Husband's office furniture and appliances were insured for £75 it? the Sun office.
