M ASTERTON AMATEUR THEATRICAL SOCIETY.
Judging by the iniMal rehearsal of "The Pirates of Penzance," by the orchestra, under the capable baton j of Mr Geo. E Gray, the above Society have been exceedingly fortun- -*- ate in obtaining the servicas of such capable talent. The instrumentalists consist of pick of Masterton, and number twenty-two. The Secretary was fortunate pnough ti pecure from the Timaru ■ Operatic Society the band parts, which were arranged in a very clever | marker, and he has since had them supplemented by music for the bassoon, oboe, and French horo, written by Mr M. R. Varnham, of Master ni-. The Maateiton audience will now have a chance o: hearing, apart from the vocal items, a real musical ' treat not often introduced into the by theatrical companies. The above comic opera is being staged by arrangement with Mr J C. Williamson, and is under the complete control of Mr U. E. Gray, director.
