(All teams for publication must reach this office •<£ r. S en Tuesday of each w ■••> G. Fairbrothei, ..uo played for the W.F.C. A. Club .- 'Uf'le of vears a f?°» ip at present pl.< ■ ,<, ror the newly fornix J/aniataa team in the Dannevirke competitions. It is to be regretted that a greater number of ladiea who were selected for the representative team to play Wellington'on Saturday were not able to make the trip, and there are only five of the original selection at present making the trip. I understand that a social will eventuate shortly to raise funds to help the ladies to get a good team away to the annual tournament to to be held this year at Nelson. There is some talk of a team of New Zealand hockey players visiting , Sydney on their own account, which will be very sporting of them if they do so. If anything comes of it, efforts will be made to have them here at the same time as the Victorians. But nothing is definitely settled. —Referee. t

In reference to playing a fiveeighth a Sydney writer says:—This player is given a roving commission. He is neither fish, flesh, fowl, nor good red herring, neither a back nor a half, but something between the two. Whatever his virtues, a 8 a player, his haphazard tactics often cause confusion.. He is a free lance, and among well disciplined players is a disturbing element.
