RACING,
TURF NOTES. (By "Zetland.") At a sale of blood stock at Hastings - !? low prices Were realised even for fashionable stock. A yearling chestnut filly by Achilles-St. Amy, was surely a bargain at 31 guineas, and a yearling filly by Stepniak-Illusion; was practically a gift to Mr J. T. Blake, of Daphne fame, at 33 guineas. A yearling and a two-year-old by Mernwee, sister and brother respectively to Merriwai, went at 40gns and 60gns, and the black mare Peaceful, by Mahal-Vista, went cheaply at £3O. Trotting stock are apparently on the up grade as regards prices. At an Ashburton sale last week Lady Clare, by Prince Imperial, realised 165gns, while Piecework, by Prince ImperialPatchwork, brought 100 guineas. The NaDier Park meeting opens to-day. There will be a fair average number of starters, and most of the events will be interesting, not only in connection with the day's racing, but in view of future events. Kaiitere, who has been affected with influenza, will make his re-appearance in the Napier Steeplechase, in which Nero, Le Beau and King Hippo should be among those finishing the course. Sir Frisco has been allotted the steadier of list 31b in the Stewards' Stakes of one mile, but the going will be to his liking. Wairarapa will be represented in this event by Mataari.
