MAORIS v. QUEENSLAND. VICIORY FOR THE VISITORS. Received June 12, 5 p.m. BRISBANE, June 11. This match was playsd on the Exhibition Ground to day. The weather was perfect, and there was an attendance of 8,000. Play in the first quarter of an hour was greatly in favour of the visitors, their threequarters passed brilliantly, and several times a score seemed certain, but the Queenelanders' defence was impregnable. Eventually, after a series of short pussing rushes Tamu scored, bat Winiata failed to convert. A period of fast even play , followed, and the Maoris' three-quar-ters continued to pass splendidly, and a rush, wherein Stead!, Kaipara and Rawiri participated, ended in the latter scoring. Winiata again fail.d with the kick, Queensland made several attempts to score, but the visitors defence was too strong, t From a line out near the Queensland's 25 the Maoris threatened and Queensland forced. A few minutes later Takarangi landed a fine ' goal from a mark. At balf time the scores were:—Maoris 9, Queensland nil. The second aalf was evenly contested, Queensland attacking vigorously, and on two occasions the Maoris forced. Play became fast, resulting in a brilliant exhibition of football, but neither aide was able to make much headway. Hall, picking up smartly in the Queensland 25's. landed a splendid field goal. A few minutes later the visitors were penalised for offside play, and Stanley , kicked a goal. The Queenslanders were playing a great game, and kept the visitors defending for some time. Eventually McCabe scored, and Stanley converted. The final scores were Maoris 13, Queensland 8. NEW ZEALAND v. NEW SOUTH WALES. WIN FOR ALL BLACKS. BY 21 TO 8. Received June 12, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, June 12. The All Blacks opened their tour handsomely by defeating New South Wales by 21 points to 8, after a fast and splendidly contested game. The visitors shone to most advantage in the ruck, and their tbreequarter line showed more combination. In the scrum the New Zealand half back, F. Roberts, was incomparably superior, while the home forwards came out better, generally in the scrums. The weather was fine, and the attendance was estimated at 16,000. The New Zealand score was made up of tries scored by Patterson, Mitchinson, Wilson, Paton and Roberts, one of which Ryan converted. F. Roberts also potted a goal. The New South Wales score was made up < of a converted and unconverted try. NORTHERN UNION GAME. ENGLAND v. NEW SOUTH WALES. Received June 12, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, June 12, England defeated New South Wales at Northern Union football by 25 to 10. A feature of the game was Lomas' (England) fine kicking, he being reeponsible for 16 points. The attendance was 25,000. WELLINGTON SENIOR RESULTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 12. Hutt 3, beat Wellington 0. WAIRARAPA gRUGBY UNION. SENIOR COMPETITION. RED STAR v. GLADSTONE. Played at Masterton, and won by Red Star by 20 points to 8. A particularly fine exhibition was witnessed on the Showgrounds on Saturday, between the Red Star and Gladstone senior fifteens. Stars commenced the attack against a strong wind, and at once showed their superiority with Gladstone hemmed in in their own 25's. From a fine dribbing rush Allen crossed the Gladstone line near the posts, and registered the first score of the match, the kick being unsuccessful. The yellow-and-blackg livened up, and a lot of give and take play ensued, until Hodge scored for Gladstone. ,Sid Mason took the kick, and registered the remaining points. The score was unaltered at half time. At the commencement of the second spell the Stars attacked. N. Chamberlain obtained the ball near the half way line, and, putting in an excellent runj potted a neat goal.
