THE MILLIONAIRES' PARSON.
The Rev. C. P. Aked, whu recently obtained a col lection, is known as "the millionaires' parson," owing to the fact that so many rich men worship at his church in Fifth Avenue, New Ycrk. Some time ago Mr Aked®thought that his wealthy congregation was getting too stingy, so he threatened to resign unless they becams more lavish with subscriptions. The woiihippar3 took his words to hsart, and when the plate went round, many of them put in 1.0.U.'s for huge amounts. One of these was from Mr Rockf .-ller, and was for no less a sum than £1,400. Mr Aked ia one cf tha most outspoken of clerics, and he caused a great sensation among American society women on one occasion by stating that "their frivolities make us almost ashamed.of the sex of our mothers." Mr Aked has received many amusing letters fiom the merr.bera of his congregation. "Ones," he says, "I wrote in an jartiila this sentence: 'I am still looking for an American temale between the ages of seven and twenty who is not impressed by the sense of her vast importance un the continent. By tha next pist I received three offers of marriage!" During a lec- ) ture'Mr Aked said: "There is a difference between the religion of a young man and that of his maiden aunt."
