THE WHITEHAVEN DISASTER.
MR KEIR HARDIE ADHERES TO BIS STATEMENT. Received June 10, 13.Up.rn. LONDON, J lire 10. Mr Keir Haidie adheres to his statement that in all probability when it was decided to wall up the Whitehaven mine, the mincis" were still alive. What, the speech more particularly emphasised, he say% was that there would "have been no disaster had the spirit of the Mines* Regulation Act been unserved. T he fire occurredv'in a "bottleneck," 1 which was the only means of egress. .Beyond the neck, t "where the workings branched' oft in five main levels, it would have been easy to construct a safety road; thence to the pit shaft. This was' especially what required investigation. ' , '
