EARTHQUAKE.
ITALY AGAIN SHAKENLOSS OF LIFE. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright, Received June 8, 9.20 a.m. ROME, June 7. An earthquake damaged the beautiful cathedra] at Boving, a fortified town in the province of Avellino. Many inhabitants of Naples and Fogeia, 80 miles north-east of Naples, are camped in the streets. Many houses have Deen destroyed, and twenty persons killed in the town of AvellhiO, capital of the province. Deaths are also reported from other piaces.
FALLING HOUSfiiS. RESCUE WORK IN PROGRESS.Received June 8. 9.2 a.m. ROME, June 7. King Victor Emmanuel and Queen Helena have left Rome by special train to visit the scenes of damage by the earthquake. Seventeen towns and villages ha«e been damaged. Falling houses caused the majority of casualties, the victims being asleep at the time. The shock was undulatory in motion. Carabiniers, sanatariana, and engineers are at rescue work, recovering the bodies from the ruins. Fissures have torn all the streets of Avellino. Much damage has been done at Calitri and Vellata. AVALANCHES ON THE DENT DU MIDI. Received June 8, 9.20 a.m. GENEVA, June 7. A strong shock was experienced at Montreux, in the Upper Rhone Valley, causing avalanches on the Dent du Midi. THE DEATH ROLL. i Received June 8, 11.47 p.m. ROME,. June 8. The death roll from'the earthquake is now given as thirty persons.
