It was called a "Mauthon Dance," the winner being tie pair who were the fresnest afLr an hour's ceaseless dancing. Eleven couples started, and at tha end of fifty-six minutes only four were cotsciuus. May Smith danced so strenuously that she ft H, cut her nose, and spilt her lip. She rose, and_in_ sisting on ccnui.uihg >.ne cuiittst, with the blood streaming down her face. A few minutes later, however, sha collapsed, and was ssiit home in a carriage. Four others were hurried into cabs. Alice Dunn an 1 Janes Mnvrissey won the contest by waltzing sixty-one times rcund the floor— a distance of more than fuur miles. More than two hundred spectators witri?ss.;d the contest, and there wa-i much bet;ing, as only one solitary policeman was present.
