THE "ROBBERY UNDER ARMS" oHAKGE. I | VERDICT OF "NOT GUILTY." By Telegraph—Press Association. JfALMERBTUN N., June 6. Pawelka was tried to-day on the charge of robbery under armt« at Kendall's, and the jury, after a retirement of four hours, returned a 'verdict of not guilty. A ruler was added that the Kendalls haJ undoubtedly been "held up," b;it tiat their identification was not sufficient. Pawelka will ba sentenced to-tnoi-row morning on ail the other charges those proved against him, ami those to which he pleaded guilty.
HOW HE LEFT WELLINGTON.
During his cross-examination, Pawelka said that after his escape from the Wellington luck-up he wtJked to Paikakariki, where hj got; into a cattle, truck on a late train at night. In this way he reached Longburn. This statement confirms the previous rumours that he was seen hiding on a truck by porters as the train passed certain stations.
