SHEEP DOG TRIALS.
A RECORD ATTENDANCE, COMMENTS BY THE JUDGE. The eighth annual Dog Trials of the Masterton Collie Glut) commenced an Mr W. Cameron's property at Te Ure Ore yesterday. The day was an ideal one for the purpose, and a record attendance witnessed the trials Tne Heading, Bringing Back, and Holding Competition was the only one finished, the whole 28 dogs entered competing Mr F. W. Jones, of Te Parae, proved the winner, and one of his-dogs also took second place. ■ The Heading, Driving aid Yarding competition was commenced, and will be finished this morning, when an effort will be made to get the remaining three events concluded. Following are the results: CLASS I. Heading, Bringing Back and Holding in the ring, to the satisfaction of judge. About 600 yards. Competitor to remain within ring while working his dog. Time allowed, 12 minutes. Points: Heading 10 points; bringing back 3, command 8, holding 4.

Jones' Bounce. —Cast to left, rather stuobarn to guide, went off the course at time 3, headed rather rash in 3min Bsec; brought back on fair lire; brought baclc sheep and ringed in good : order. Mr F. Jones' Wattie.—Cast to light, headed wrong side in grain 21sec, | came back in fair line with sheep in • good order and fair at ring. , Mr J. McAdie's Scot cast to right f>nd crossed the line, headed on wrong aide in 2min 40sec; took lot of. pers jading to come on to the sheep, then i worked well, coming down the hill > and on flat. Sheep got out of ring, :! otherwise style fair. i Mr J. Pattsrson's Yarra cast to - left; went out ori fair line, and |
headed in lmin 50sec. Came down hill in good line. Dog a bit noisy when starting, pulling into ring on wrong side; style fair. Mr A. McLay's Glen crossed to left and went rather wide on flat; went well up hill, but headed rather close in 2min ssec. Got «-h; ep in gully, when they became parted, but got together after a while. Came to ring in 9min, but sheep got out again, and tbe dog cDuld not hold them well. Mr J. Patterson's Bruce cast to left, went- out on good line, but came too close in heading, and allowed sheep to go too far before stopping them in 2min 15secs. Came back rather fast at times, and just got I into ring as fome was called.
