VARAWA GETS £5,000 DAMAGES. MELBOURNE, May 31. Varawa was awarded £5,(J00 damages and costs against Messrs Haward Smith and Co. The Judge held that the defendant's action against plaintiff in having him arrested was not justified.
Varawa , t tried to purchase the steamer Peregrine for, the Russian Government, and when the Commonwealth Government refused to sanction the transaction Varawa arrested, it was alleged, at the instance of Howard Smith's agents
