CRETAN QUESTION.
STATEMENT BY TURKISH GRAND VIZIER. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received May L 3l, 9.10 a.m. LONDON, May 30. The Grand Vizier ' (Hakki Bay), speaking in the Turkish Chamber of Deputies, said the solutioi of the Cretan problem was negotiations with the Protecting Powers (Britain, France, Russia, and Italy), not with Greece and Crete. He added that if- Greece intervened, Turkey would be obliged to have recourse to arms. She would not hesitate a£ any sacrifice to retain Crete. / The Turkish Minister for Marine hai resigned owing to a divergence of views with the Grand Vizier. A mob at Jaffa (in the Turkish Pashalate of Syria) attacked several Greek shops, and beat the occupants.
