CARTERTON NEWS.
(Own Correspondent.) Friday. A card tourney was played here last evening, between Totara and Stonehenge Lodge of Druids, the tournament ending in favour of the former by 33 to 31. After the contest, the evening was devoted to harmony. Mr W. M. Halley's chestnut gelding, Hilarian, has returned from his trainer at Featherston, and ia now located at the local stables, where he will be spelled awhile before again racing. Mr P. Dudson, a son of Mr J. A. Dudson, of this town, has received a cadet appointment in the Native Lands Department at Gisborne, and leaves to take up his duties on Tuesday next. Mr Dudson's many friends will wish him the best of success in the duties he is about to undertake. The tennis court at Clareville is at present being top-dressed, the work being carried out by Mr A. R. Hadfield's staff. The subject for the service ot the New Zealand Church of God on Sunday evening will be "The Inner Planets, and tha Canal System of Mars." Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P., has donated £3 33 to the fund 3of tne Wairarupa Rugby Union.
