The Premier will leturn to Wellington from the south on Wednesday mornir.g, Mr 1). M. O'Connor, of Greytown, has resigned his position aa a Justice of the Peace. Mr F. Simpson, Commissioner of Crown Lands, 'laranaki, is on a tusiness visit to Wellington. Mr J. F. Shepherd has been appointed a farm manager under the Department of Agriculture. Mr A. Barnes is gazetted a member of the Aotea District Maori Land Board, vice Mr Lundius, resigned. Mr W. P. Begg, M.R.C.V.S., has been temporarily appointed an inspector under the Slaughtering and Inspection Act. The Rev. W. Perry', Baptist, and Mr J. Harris, Methodist, are officiating ministers under Lne Act. Mr H. Christophers, for many years on the staff of the Southland District Railway Engineer's office, ha* been transferred to Wellington, Mr G. H Dolby, of the "Kangitikei Advocate," end formerly of thde "Wairarapa Age," has been appointed sub-editor of the ' Taranaki Herald." The colonialiaaxiliary forces longservice medal has been awarded to Captain (Adjutant) W. F. Klingender, Ist Regiment, Wellington Mounted Rifles. Mr Edward Brown, second engineer of the s.s. Inveran, who served his time at Cab'e's Foundry, has just received word that he has passed his examination for chief engineer's certificate. Mr Alexander McDonald, after of the Rev. Father A. McDonald, of St. Anne's parish, Wellington South, died at his home in, WanK anui, on Wednesday night. The deceased was 73 years of age. Mr R. W. Richards, Town Clerk and City Engineer of Dunedin, has besn notified that on his nomina'ion Mr W. H. Morton, A.M.1.C.E., City Engineer, Wellington; Mr John Higgins, M.1.A.M.C.E., County Engineer, Auckland, have been elected members of the Institute of Local Government Engineers of Australasia. At the Masterton District High School, at the brealcirg up yesterday, >■ Miss I. McLandress, M.A , who is retiring from the secondary staff, was made the recipient of two presentations. The first was from the staff, and consisted of well finished silver watch and silver-mounted hand mirror. The second was irum the girls of the junior secondary class, and consisted of silver-mounted articles for the dressing table. The headmaster, Mr W. H. Jackson, in making ths presentation, expressed the rfgret felt by the staff end scholars in Miss McLaitcrfss remcvsl.
