WAIRARAPA HUNT CLUB

(Own 'Jorrespondent)

The Wairarapa Hunt met on Thursday last to hunt over country kindly lent by Messrs f. Cotter, C. Bannister, W. H. Buick, Robt. Buick, John Ross, F. Woods, and Matahiwi Es- ■ tate (Mr Holmes), which I am pleasI cd to say was attended by a real good I representative number of follower |of this good sport. Tho day was an ! ideal one for hunting, and undoubtedj ly that together with the good huntj ing country given by the above- ■ mentioned good sports, was responsible for a large field, who all came forward to enjoy th.3 sport. The hounds, who are this season hunted j by Mr Bunny, were met on the | Opaki Road near Mr Cotter's, and were thrown oil' on his country, then through Mr Bannister's, Mr W. H. Buick's, into Mr Ross', and across a rocky double into Mr Robt. Buicks. where after a good run over a country that would be appreciated by any hunter, the followers were well (almost too well) entertained by the Deputy Master's wife, Mrs Robt. Buick. After partaking of Mrs j Buick's hospitality, which was liberally given to all who were [followers and spectators, Mr Vallance, in a very appropriate speech, thanked Mr and Mrs Buick for ths kind way they had entertained everybody. After Mr Buick had responded in his well-known hearty manner, the members who were entrusted with the drag saddled up and started from the homestead. From their they made across a few fields into Matahiwi, then into Mr F. Woods, and finished up right in front of Mr W. H. Buick's house. The country hunted over was rocky as well as bein« stiff, and no accidents occurred, which shows that the hunters in this district are well up to the standard of hunters in the Dominion. Before closing this report of a good afternoon's sport, I must say that the numbers of ladies who were out witnessing the run was very well up to the number you sea at any hunt in our Dominion. Although I was unable to get all the names of those following, these few that I can give you wrote straight:- Mr C. F. Vallance (Patron) on Dreamy Daniel; Mr W. H. Buick (Master) on Dick Turpin; Mr Robt. Buick (Deputy Master) on Kiwi; S. Bunny (huntsman) onGrey Dawn; Whips: B. Vallance on Country Girl, f,C. J. Bennett on Gleam o' Dawn; Messrs B. Westmorland on Minota; W. Vernon on Tui; Alec Watson on Tobermcney; L. Hill on Hinepou; K. Baird on Gamy; H. Falloon on Frolic; J. Grant on Uncle Sad; J. E. Warrington on Premier Jack; N. Campbell on Gaelic; N. Burn on Silvia Maid, j and several ohters. The ladies were | well represented, and the few names j I could get were:—Misses Pilmer (3). Mace, Baird, also Mr and Mrs Jas. Ewart, Miss Vallance, Miss Watson, and a number of others in motor J cars and buggies.
