Mr Hoatson •was a well-known figure in Congregational and athletic circles in Christtcburch nearly twenty years ago. He SLas one of the first pastors of Trinity and his labours there earned the esteem and respect of many 'Consregatlonailsts in New Zealand. Mr Hoatson waa particularly interested in football, and was for several years among the leaders of the Rugby game in Canterbury, acting «a referee in many important mat cbes.»
