The Master ton High School ladies* hockey team played a match with Dalefield in the "Age" Cup competition at Carterton on Saturday, the Dalefield team winning by three goals to one. Misses B. Ordish, EGallon and P. Ashton thot goals for Dalefield, and Miss B. Scott for the School.
The work of prospecting for payable copper lcdes in the Otamatea district is steadily proceeding. Twothirds of tha rights of the Kafpars Coppsr Company (says the Auckland Herald) have been acquired by the Silver Stream Company and a large sum is now to be expended in thoroughly exploiting the area over which privileges have been obtained.
During the progress of the Junior Rugby football match on the Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon last, between the Red Star and Weraiti Clurjp, G. Sowman, a member of the former team, had ona of his collartones broken. H. Waugh, also a member of the same team, had a col-lar-bone put out and the muscles of his neck strained. Both accidents were caused by one Maori pltyer in the Weraiti team, who was playing a rather rough game, and who was severely warned by the referee (Mr T. Feilding) for his tactics.
His Worship the Mayor, Mr J M. Coradine, invites representatives of religious bodies, volunteers, army veterans, Education authorities, Fire Brigade, Fire Police, and Friendly Societies to meet him" at the Council Chambers, Masterton, tc-morrow evening, at 8 o'clock, for the purpose of settling certain matters in connection with the funeral service to be held in the lown Hall on the 23th inst.
The annual meeting of the Masterton branch ot the Navj7 League will be held in the BorcughCouncii Chambers this evening. The,annual balance sheet, prepared by the secretary, Mr E. R. B. Dan'el, shows the League to be in a sound financial position, the credit balance at bank being iJ6.6s-.6c1. Tne receipts during the year amounted to £SB Is, and the expenditure was £sl 14i Id.
The action brought by the Wellington Harbour Perries'.Co., Ltd., against the Corporation of the Royal Exchange Assurance Company for £SOO on a policy of insurance on the s.s. Duco was continued in the Supreme Court, Wellington, on Saturday, but the case was not finished when the Court rose.
One of the Waikare party has great admiration for the seenic beauties of Dusky Sound, and is "ttrich struck withthe appropriateness of the names given the various bays, islets, etc., in Captain Cook's book. Though interested in the effort to salve the Waikare, he found time to travel over a good areafof country at Dusky Sound and (says tha Southland Newg) was astonished at the quantity of bird life. While climbing a tree, and when about 18ft up, he lost his hold, and fell, but, fortunately, strucK a branch in the descent, otherwise serious injuries might have ha J to be recorded. As it was a sprained ankle was sustained, which kept him indoors for a week or two.
