DrA. K. Newman, ex-Mayor of Wellington,.haß gone to EDgland.

The Hon. Dr. Findlay returned to Wellington from the North last evening.

Mr F. Mcorhouse. of the Wellington Tourist Office, has been appointed ranger of the Rotorua district.

The Minister of Education (Hon. G. Fowlds) has returned to Wellington from his trip to Auckland.

Mr A. Dillon, M.P. for Hawke'e Bay, and Mr R. W. Smith, M.P. for Rangitikei, are on a visit to Wellington.

Mr James Mackenzie, Commissioner of Crown Lands in Wellington, is htiil confined to bed with a severe attack of influenza.

Mr W. Cra?g, the well-known tobacconist of Queen street, is seriously ill and faint hopes are entertained of his ultimate recovery.

Mr T. Ronayne (General Manager of Railways), Mr J. Burnett (Chief Engineer), and Mr H. Buxton (Chief Traffic Manager) are inspecting the railways in the Auckland district.

The late R. J. Seddon told a New Zealand pressman in 1897 that if Tom Wilfori kept his head he would one day be Premier of New Zealand. Looks as if there was something in the prophecy, too. Mr John Lambie, who has retired from the chairmanship of the South Rakaia Road Board, has served- on that body for thirty years, during twelve of whlsh he has served as chairman.

A full attendance of the bar at New Plymouth on Tuesday weclomed Mr L. G. Reid the lately appointed S.M., who is relieving Mr H. S. Fitzherbert, S.M., at present away on sick leave. Mr" Reid will take up his duties in the Wararapa shortly. The death occurred at Masterton yesterday afternoonn of Mr William Henry Truscotl. son of Captain and Mrs Truscott. The deceased, who was only 27 years of age, had besn ill for pome time, and " issed away peacefully at the resit* ice of his parents in Worksop Road The sincerest sympathy will be extended to the family m their sad bereavement.

At the monthly meeting of the North Wairarapa Benevolent Trustees, yesterday, reference was made to the fact that it was the last meeting of the Trustees at which Mr C. A. Tabuteau would act as secretary. Several Trustees, in referring to the event, paid eulogistic tribute to Mr Tabuteau's services during the period he had acted as secretary.

Mr J. J. Vire:o, general secretary of the Sydney Young' Men's Christian Association, and hon. national secretary, has rtceived word of his appointment as Australasian representative of the World's Alliance, which has its headquarters at Geneva, Switzerland.

The Mayoress of Wellington, Mrs Wiltord, who is at present an Home, is leaving London for Australia by. the Orient Company's Orsova, on 27th May. Ths' steamer is due at Melbourne on 6th July, and Mrs Wilford will reach Wellington about a week later.

• The constitution of th<3 Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid District under tha Act of last session, has brought about changes in the administration of the institution in the district which have necessitated the retirement pi Mr J C. Boddington from the position of secretary to theMasterton Hospital. Mr Boddington's connection with that institution has extended over a period of thirty | years, during eighteen of which, 1 as chairman of the Trust, his interest in and attention to its economical management could not be excelled whilst his very capable discharge of the duties of secretary to the Trust is universally acknowledged. We understand that a movement is on foot in Masterton for making Mr Boddington a presentation, setting forth his services, together with a purse of sovereigns. .
