GAMES TO BE PLAYED ON THURSDAY.
SENIOR. | Excelsior—Post and Telegraph, at Lansdowne No. 1, referee Mr NobleCampbe!!; Carterton —Martinborougn at Martiiibarough, referee Mr Dryden. JUNIOR. St Matthew's A—Excelsior A, at Lansdowne No. 2, referee Mr Rosson; Excelsior B—St. Matthew's B, at Lansdowne No. 4, Referee Mr Donald. LADIES. Huia—Carterton, at Lansdowne No 5, referee Mr B. Iveson. Players are requested to note:~ln the event of matches being postponed, a notice will be shown at the Age office. Manv persons are not yet aware of the popularity that hockey is fast attaining, if any proof is needed, a walk to Lansdowne on Thursday afternoon will dispell any doubt on that point, for no less than four games representing 88 players are put down for decision on that ground. The Hockey Association in charging the modest sum of 6d for admission, do so with tha idea of procuring furds with which to procure bettQr accommodation for their many patrons, and, also to improve the playing area?, which will also be a tieridit to the public, for the better the ground the better the display of a clean and '■wholesome sport. The first series of games were played last Thursday, atid were keenly followed by a largo number of spectators who were much interested from start to finish. The second series {promise to be of a still more interesting- character and a large attendance is anticipated. The following fixtures for the Sati urday games conducted by the Wai rarapa Hockey Association were drawn at a meeting last evening:— May 21sr. —St Matthew's v. Maaterton, P. and T. a bye. May 2Sth. —P. and T. v. Masterton, St. Matthew's a bye.
June 4th.—P. and T. v. St. Matthew's, Master ton a bye. The referees will be arranged later.
The following taam will represent the Excelsior seniors against the P. and T. next Thursday afternoon, at Lansdowne: —Richards, Williams, Phillips, Barr, Scrimgeour, Archer, Smith, Minett, Praynell, Dickson, and Hatch,
The following vill represent the St. Matthew's B team against Excelsior B, at Lansdowne, to-morrow: —Backs, S. Cresswell, D. Diggins; five-eighth, Harding; halves, D. Donald, P. Bennett, F. Madsen; forwards, A. Styles, B. Livingstone, A. Cowper, G. Elliott, F. Jones; emergencies, Johnson, Lawence, Wimsett.
