TUKU NOTES

(By "Zetland.")

F. Tilley, th.3 well-known Fordell trainer, contemplates taking a trip to Australia r.ext spring, and it is expected that the principal horses to be included in the team will be Equitas, Milan and Master Laddo. The Porirua trainer, J. 11. Prosser, had a good innings at the Marlborough meeting. He won the principal events with Lady Medallist, two races wilh St. Felix, and a four furlong flutter with Lace Collar. His leading horseman, C. Jenkins, rode six winners at the fixture. Aimwell has improved since joining J. Cress' Masterton stable, and had no difficulty in winning the Autumn Handicap at Riverlands on VVed-

nesday last. Penza, who was strongly supported at the recent Wellington meeting, where she racari very poorly, scored twice at Blenheim this week very decisively. She was ridden very capably by T. Pritchard. The Conqueror colt. First Consul, •will probably make his next appearance at the Wanganui meeting this month. The sale of the th v : - ■ v.-.-hbr-* sire San Francisco to Sir George Clifford was brought about by Mr Thomas, xecently sporting writer for ths "Evening Post," Wellington. Being at the recent blood stock sab in Sydeny he made inquiries as to whether Francisco could be purchased as he was of the opinion that some of the New Zealand sporting men would be glad to buy him. A cablegram was sent to the owner who was away on a holiday tour, and a reply received to the effect that £1,500 would be accepted for the horse. Mr Thomas therepon cabled to Sir G. Clifford, who made the purchase, and New Zeaiand has thus acquired a horse that should make a very worthy addition to the blood stock of the Dominion. Horse owners will be glad to find that the Otaki Racing Club is givine very substantial stakes for its meeting to be held next month. The prize money for the fourteen events amount to no less than £1,660. The Raukawa Cup is worth 300sovs and the Huia Handicap 220sovs, while for the "Ranginui and Railway Handicaps, 150 sovs and 120 sovs, are allotted. The club, which will race at its newcourse near the Otaki Railway Station, ia decidedly progressive, and a length list of nominations for the meeting is assured. Wairarapa is sure to be well represented, as horses in training at Opaki, Clareville, Tauherenikau and Martinborough are bsing prepared for this fixture.
