PICTURE SHOWS.

To the Editor. j Sir,—lt is with extreme regret 1 read in your paper the decision of the ; Borough Council debarring us from | giviog a Sunday evening in each j month for a performance in aid ofj your local hospital and other charit- ; able institutions. I understand the , grounds for objection were the em- j ployment 01 an operator on Sunday and the fear cf further applications I from other sources. With regard to i the first objection I may say I vol-j untarily offered my services to Messrs i Thompson and Payne for one Sunday j in the month as operator in what I j thought was a good cause. I was not asked to do so by the firm either directly or indirectly. As for other applications I should have thought the Council would only be too ready to assist in swelling the funds of local i charities by removing narrow-minded restrictions. I may state that despite j the perhaps unintentional slight on Messrs Thompson and Payne's charitable feelings the offer of one Sunday evening's performance per month is still open, the total proceeds to be given to the funds of the Hospital, St. John Ambulance Society, and the District Nurse Fund, etc., in rotation, if those interested can obtain the necessary permit.—l am., etc, S. J. PEARSON, Operator and local representative for Thompson-Payre Pictures.
