A Press Association message states that Mr Leonard Reid, of the Crown Law Office, has resigned "and has been appointed a Stipendiary Magistrate. After doing relieving magisterial work, Mr Reid will probably be appointtd to the charge of the Wairarapa district.

Mr Peter Kerr, F K.1.8.A., tne architect of the Houses of Parliament in Melbourne, recently attained his 90th year, and is still hale and hearty. He retired from the Public Service in 1892. The name of J. Duggan appearing in yesterday morning's report as one of the men entombed in the Otira tunnel, naturally caused considerable anxiety amongst the friends and relatives of Mr Jack Duggan, who until recently was a popular and well-known resident of - r his town, especially, as he had gone to the West Coast. Miss Duggan immediately sent a wire to Greymuuth to ascertain particulars regarding her brother. She received a prompt reply to the effect that he was working at his trade in Blackball, and that it was another J. Duggan who had been entombed. Later on in the afternoon a telegram was also received from Mr Duggan himself stating that he was well and nearty. A further telegram despatched yesterday morning to Mr Gavin, manager of the gang of workmen at the tunnel inquiring for naws of J. Duggan brought the following reply ar noon: —"Talking to and feeding J. Duggan ihroueh an air tube. He is uninjured and we hope to have him out of tne tunnel within three or four hours' time."
