His face I was clean shaven, and his hair, | which was oiled, was brushed down 1 over his forehead. He wore clothes 1 which the police had given him when | his own were taken away for ex--1 amination by the Government anil a, y flt When Ills name was called he rose lightly to his feet. The magistrate told him he was not required to plead. He said nothing, but stood easily in the dock, occasionally fumbling a soft felt hat he had in his hands. The court was crowdea. I Sergeant Drew applied for a remand of the case as soon as the charge was read. The remand was ganted, and the accused was removed to the cells. SEEKING FOR EVIDENCE. . The body of the murdered chilJ. | May Phillips, was buried at St. Thomas' Cemetery, North Sydney, and the funeral was a very large one. The Chatswood police and Detectives fcullerton and Leary continued their investigations, and have collected a large amount of circumstantial evidence. A spade was found in Phillips' hut which correspond with marks made by a spade near the bush grave. An axe haa also been lound, | with traces of bloori on the handle, and has been sent to the analyst for examination. It is also stated that a large knife which was used in the hut has disappeared.
