LONDON WOOL MARKET.
Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having received the following cable message from their London house, under date of the 26th inst.—The May series opened with a large attendance of buyers, fairly ijnimated competition and a selection comprising nearly all crossbreds. For merinos generally prices show an advance of from par to five per cent, fine and medium crogsbrads are unchanged, and coarse crossbreds are from par to 5 per cent, lower.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London House:—There was a good attendance at the opening of the sales to-day competition by Home and Continental buyers active, and prices compared with the close of preceding series ruled in seller's favour for Merino; crossbred unchanged, except for coarse crossbreds, whU'h are par to 5 per cent, lower. The opening catalogues were fairly representative."
STOCK MARKET,
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd.. report on their Pahiatua sale of 26th instant, as follows:—We had an extra heavy yarding of both sheep and cattle, submitted to a large attendance. We had a good demand for wethers and lambs, but aged ewes met practically no enquiry. Cattle met a good 3ale. Quotations:— S.m. ewea in lamb, 7s 4d to9s?d; medium wethers, lis, lis 7d to 12a; forward wethers, 12s Bd, 13s to 13s 8d; lambs, 6s, 6s 4d to 8s 7d, others 3s 7d to 5s 6d; aged ewes in lamb. 4s 7d to 5s 8d; cull ewes, 3s 3d; steers, £3 Is to £4 15s: store cows, £1 19s to £2 10s-; empty cows, £3 la to £4 2s 6d; bulls, £2 7s, £2 lis to £4; springing cows, £3 10s to £4 15s; weaners, 245, 26s to 31s; empty heifers, £4 to £4 15s; bullocks, £4 15s to££s 12s 6d; springing heifers, £3 3s to £5 7s 6d; cows and calves, £3 10s to £3 12s 6d. By Telegraph—Special to Age. PALM3RSTON N., April 28. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report:—We had a large entry entry of both sheep and cattle, and the enquiry was good for all classes. The sheep consisted chiefly of aged ewes and medium lambs, which met with a ready sale, all lines changing hands with the exception of one small pen of ewes. We yarded several nice Hops of bullocks, which met with fair competition. On account of A. Harding, of Siberia, 60 three-year bullocks realised £5 10a, and 27 forward bullocks on account of P. A. McHardy made £7 9s. We quote:—Sheep: Mixed aged ewes, 5s 6d, 6s, 83 Bd, 8s 9d; ewes in lamb, 5 6d, 6s Id, 7s 5d to lis 8d; lambs, 4s 9d, 5s 2d, 5s 7d, 5s lid, 6s Bd, 7s sd; wethers, 7s lOd. Cattle: Forward two-year steers, £3; fat cows, £4 13s 6d; empty cows, £3; weaners, 18s 6d to 30s; heifers in calf, £3 10a; heifers in milk, £2 18s to £4 1 Oa.
