CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor. Sir,—lt must be apparent to most of the advanced thinkers who take an interest in the closer settlement of the land that the splendid Land Act of last session (The Land Settlement Financa Act), which was carried through Parliament with the support of our foremost politicians of both sides of the House, is the best and most liberal Land Act that ever has been passed by this or any previous Government. Yet ud to the present it ssems to be as dead as the proverbial herri.ig. With the unparalleled opportunities offered by this Act to men of limited means to place themselves upon the land, it seems to me that there must be something out of joint in connection with the administration of this Act. An Act so Worthy of admiration and patronage should be given greater publicity. To my c mind the roost apparent means to acV complish this end lie in the direction of appointing Commissioners under the Act. The duty of those Commissioners ehuuld chiefly consist in receiving offers of suitable properties and forming associations of men of the right kind. If the Government use care in the selection and appointment of thoroughly competent officers, men well versed in the suitability and value of the land offered for such settlement, I have no doubt about the Act becoming the most popular and most effective that bas ever been enacted in this or any other country.—l am, etc , FARMER.
