ANNUAL KEPORT.
Following is the annual report of the above Society, to be submitted at the annual meeting at Carterton on Thursday next: —'"The members of the Genera! Committee have much pleasure in submitting the report and bilance sheet for the year 1909-10, and. in congratulating you on the satisfactory position of the Society. The 1909 show was a pronounced success, like its predecessor, and we were again favoured with two fine days. Though the balance Bheet shovvs that a little less wat> received for entry fees this year, the other accounts are all in excess of those of last year. The quality of stock exhibited was as excellent as in former years and in most of the sections judges commented] very favourably on the exhibits. As evidence of the still interesting popularity ot the show, the Committee has again received various letters of thanks and congratulation. You will notice that the overdraft has increased by £l2O. This is mainly attributable to the facts that permanent improvements have cost £lOl, while £4O more has been spent on prize money, and £26 on champion prizes than received. Expenditure has been carefully managed, and a saving in general show expeneses of £4O been effected. The Ground Committee has paid special attention to the maintenance of your grounds and buildings are in good order and has carried out only those improvements which have been found absolutely necessary. The butter-fat competition- was again a great sue cess, andj a general interest w»s taken in the contest by dairy farmers. Mr C. Morgan won the cup for the year, his cow scoring total points 79.38. There were 29 entries. Your thanks are due to Mr Booth for again generously providing the grazing. The other champion prizes were won as follows:—Champion Jump: Rose bowl, presented by Mr D. C. Buchanan, M.P., and O. R. Bunuy, Gladstone School, Miss Piggford, mistress Durscg the past year your committee has given serious consideration to the question of holding a Ram Fair, but decided that it would bs better to consider the advisability of instituting a Stock Sale or Fair, for the day lafter the Annual Show in October, in the interests of both exhibitors and Wairarapa farmers. The entries to be for all classes, although it is anticipated that advantage will be taken of the opportunity by dairy farmers more particularly. Your committee desire to thank all those who contributed towards the society's prize fund, both in Wellington and Wairarapa, and also to express its appreciation of the work carried out by the Stewards and Judges, to whom belongs in a great measure, the credit of the success and popularity of the annual fixture. The President, Vice-Presidents, Treasurer, Auditor, and a proportion of the committee retire according to the rules, and you will be called upon to elect their successors.
