AN ASHBURTON ELECTION.
By Telegraph—Press Association. ASHBURTQN, Friday. A special meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held to-day, at which Dr Valintine was present. The question of the validity of the election ot the chairman was dealt with. Mr Hugo Friedlander had i been elected chairman at the first meeting of the Board, held on April Ist, on the casting vote of the Ke- [ turning Officer, Henry Davis. The other candidate protested, and referred the matter to Dt Valintine for decision. Dr Valintine replied stating that 'the election was invalid. After fully discussing the matter to-day, Dr Valintine said there was no doubt the procedure regarding the election of Mr Friedlander was questionable in Btrict terms of the Act, i according to his interpretation, but' section 129 of the Act made an absn- ' lute promise for a settlement ox the difficulty and he would strongly suggest Mr Friedlander should continue to occupy the chair as the recognised elected chairman of the Board, pending the pleasure of his Excellency the Governor.
