A HEAVY DEFICIT. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright Received April 20, 11.5 p.m. LONDON, April 20. In the House of Commons. Mr Lloyd George said he realised the deficit would be £26,248,000. When arrears were collected the surplus would be £2;9(>3,000, Had the Budget passed in 1909 the surplus would have been £4,200,000. The land tax arrears were £1,940,000, which would doubtless b9 collected, and hoped to collect another £23.455,000 income tax, making the actual loss £350.000, and the loss on stamps £600,000. No country in the world, and no other fiscal system could have emerged triumphantly from such a severe strain.
