MASTERTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Masterton Horticultural Society wss held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms, la3t evening There as a good a<tendatice of members, and Dr Cook occupied the chair. The balance sheet showed the receipts to be £143 19,s lid.and the expenditure £147 15s. This leaves a debit balance of £3 15a Id. Against this amount there are 'subscriptions amounting to £5. which the secretary stated were "good."
The chairman said the society was in a very good position, and ae thought they should congratulate themselves on coming out so well. In addition to the £5 subcriptions owing to the Society they had assets in the shape of tables, timber, trays, wire netting, etc., to the value of nearly £3O, and these would be in readiness for the nexi; show without expense. The balance sheet wa£ adopted.
The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows ron, Mr A. W. Hogg, M.P.; President, Mr A. Caselberg; Vice-Presi-dents, Messrs J. Pryor and A. Henderson; General Committee, Messrs M. R. Varnham, G, W. Sella-, J. C. Alpass, T. Dixuii, H. M. Boddington, E. Hale, W. J. Hirschberg, N. H. James; Ladies' Committee, Mesdames Pryor, Wood, Tabuteau, Hirschberg. Gawith, Keith, Miss M. Payton and Mrs Dr Cook; Secretary,Mr A. Wise; Honorary treasurer, Mr G. K. Sykes; Auditor, Mr McHattie.
Mr Pryor proposed that the sociey hold a spring; show.as well aan autumn show. There was in his opinion no doubt that a spring show would be a success. Masterton had an abundance of flowers out in bloom in * the spring, and he believed that more entries would be received for flowers for competition at a spring show than for the autumn shew. In answer to a question, Mr Pryor said he did not favour having; a home industries section in the spring show, and in regard to this section, he was in favour of cutting twothirds of the classes out at the autumn show. With regard to the latter statement all the members present agreed with Mr Pryor. A lengthy discussion then ensued as to the advisability of holding two shows, spring and autumn, and finally Mr Pryor's motion was carried without dissent. Some discussion ensued as to reducing the prices of the subscriptions, but as the society is to hold two shows during the coming year, it was resolved that the subscriptions be the same as at present, namely, 10s for a family ticket, and 5s for a single ticket.
The retiring president, Dr Cook, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for the interest he had taken in the welfare of the society during his term of office. Similar votes of thanks were accorded to the retiring secretary, Mr N. H. James, the retiring committee, and the Press.
