PRAISE OF THE AMERICAN FLEET.

WESTPOINT AS A MODEL FOR NEW ZEALAND.

Received April 19, 10.30 p.m. NEW YOKE. April 19. Field-Marshal Lord Kitchener was the guest of "The Pilgrims'" at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. He said while in Australia he had "neaitd a good deal about the American Fleet. What struck the people of the Commonwealth was not courtesy and goodwill oi the Admiral and his officers, but the good behaviour, smartness and preparedness for war of the men and ships. The'visit, he added, created an excellent impression, and demonstrated to the world the power of the American Navy, and bros ght home to the people of Australia and New ZeaJand the kindly feelings the Americans entertained towards them. Lord Kitchener concluded "Mv opinion of Westpoint may be summed up m the word 'thorough.' It makes men of raw lads, forms their characters and instructs their minds. I recommsnded the Australian and New Zealand Governments to make Westpoint their model, but tiny will have to work by degrees, for it has taken a century to create Westpoint."
